Anne Leisner’s sometimes eerie, silent, unpeopled drawings and paintings of an older crumbling and often grungy Sydney are not just nostalgic visions but a record of real places that have survived development and time. The rear views of many of the houses and streets that she has painted and drawn say more about the character of these suburbs than the tidier facades at the front. The lanes and what can be seen over the back fences of the inner city provided the backdrop for her last three solo exhibitions at A-Space on Cleveland, Surrry Hills and PD Gallery, Gymea
Anne’s dog portraits were a fun and exciting break from her backstreeet works. Several of these drawings and paintings were included in the “Annual Dog Show” exhibitions at A-Space on Cleveland, Surry Hills.
More recently, Anne has discovered the delights of beachcombing. Her new exhibition focuses on the wonderful array of tangled weeds washed up by the tide, patterns of light on the water’s surface, and the distorted shapes of shells lying under the moving water.
